An incubator is a property structure associated with a university or college which hosts university spin-offs, or innovating start-ups resulting from scientific research. By making these premises available under advantageous financial conditions, the incubator allows the spin-off to reach a critical size before it spreads its wings.
In order to encourage this evolution toward autonomy, the incubator gives the young company a series of technical development and strategy recommendations (technical validation, capital raising, grants, and financing, etc.).
The Brussels Capital Region currently has five incubators:
-
EEBIC at 1070 Brussels
-
BLSI at 1200 Brussels
-
ICAB at 1040 Brussels
-
UCL incubator at 1200 Brussels
-
Greenbizz at 1020 Brussels
The Brussels incubators work in close collaboration within a coordination body aiming to homogenise the incubator offer in the Brussels Capital Region; this is managed by citydev.brussels
